Sally Estlin - Fitness In Your 40’s

February 12, 2018

This week's episode is all about staying fit in your 40's and beyond as I interview Sally Estlin, Holistically Fit Specialist.

Sally was drawn to fitness 10 years ago after a health scare left her worried about her health and longevity. Sally felt drawn to fitness as a way to release her stress and a way to feel good about herself.

Sally coaches women of all ages and we delve into fitness when you're in perimenopause.

Find out what Sally's tips are for working with women who, in their 40's and beyond, have likely been through a lot physically - stress, children, trauma's and illness. I asked Sally how she helps women get back into their bodies, to appreciate their physicality and empower them.

We also talk about results - do they take longer the older we are? What can we do to help this process?

We delve into weight loss and how we can maximise this in perimenopause.

Sally ends the show by giving us her top 3 areas to focus on when working with a client in perimenopause, and how to hire the best coach for your age.

Penny Kendall-Reed - The Effects of Stress On Your Hormones

January 15, 2018

Today's episode is all about the effects of stress on your hormones and using personal genetics for deeper insight.

Dr Penny Kendall-Reed, is a Naturopathic doctor, author of 5 best selling books and international lecturer on neuroendocrine related diseases, chronic stress and weight disorders. Penny is also our absolute go-to person in the field of personal genetics.

We talked so much about stress, and the way changes in your stress hormones affect weight, cravings, immune system, sleep and more.

Perimenopause could be described as the time when life and stress collide - many symptoms of perimenopause could be stress-induced, trouble sleeping, abdominal weight gain, irregular periods, skin and hair changes.

Penny provided lots of tips on nutrition, the timing of our meals, supplements and more to help with stress, cravings and metabolism.

And finally, we discussed the world of personal genetics and how they shaped Penny's work with patients and her understanding of health. It gets a little technical for a few minutes as we get into details with a few genes, but bear with us, the practical tips return!
